Masaza Cup 2026 Kicks Off Tomorrow as Buweekula Host Kyadondo in Bulange Group Opener

The Masaza Cup edition kicks off tomorrow at Mubende PTC Playground as Buweekula hosts Kyadondo in the Bulange group, marking the start of another highly anticipated tournament organized by the Buganda Kingdom.

The Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA), in partnership with Buganda Kingdom, has confirmed the match officials for the 2026 Masaza Cup opener between Buweekula and Kyadondo. The appointments reflect FUFA’s commitment to using experienced referees for the competition’s biggest fixtures.

Masembe Joseph from the Kampala Region League has been appointed as the referee for this encounter. Given the experience he has gained in FUFA-organized competitions, Masembe is the right man for this task, having handled several high-profile games in recent seasons.

Masembe will be assisted by fellow Kampala Region official Mugalu Aziz, who has been assigned as the first assistant referee.

In Action is assistant Referee Mukasa Julius.

Mukasa Julius from the Buganda Region has been appointed as the second assistant referee, while Jjumba Solomon, also from the Buganda Region, will serve as the fourth official for this encounter.

Kyadondo Ssaza are under the stewardship of Bright Nyanzi, who has gained experience with Kyagwe, Ssingo, Busiro, among others. He also handles Rines SS WFC in the FUFA Women Super League, showing his versatility across both men’s and women’s football.

It is a big task ahead for Coach Bright Nyanzi, who has mostly been working as an assistant coach in the Masaza Cup. Now in charge of Kyadondo, he faces the challenge of ending the Ssaza’s long wait for silverware. Kyadondo have gone almost 18 years without winning the Masaza Cup, having last won it in 2008.
