Vipers Sports Club lifted their 8th Uganda Premier League title today at St. Mary’s Stadium, Kitende, capping off a dominant 2025-26 campaign with a 2-0 win over Express FC. Goals from Watambala Abdul Karim and Gusto Mulongo sealed victory on the final day, sending the Venoms into celebration mode in front of their home fans.
The title triumph capped a season of consistency for Vipers, who finished top of the table with 67 points from 30 matches. But attention quickly turned to continental ambitions as club president Dr. Lawrence Mulindwa was asked by former Vipers and Uganda Cranes player Hassan Waswa what the club would do to reach the CAF Champions League quarterfinals.

Mulindwa was clear that next season’s campaign would look different. “What we can assure our fans and all Ugandans is that next season, it’s going to be different when it comes to the Champions League,” he said. “Now we know what’s required to have a formidable team that can compete at that level.”
The Vipers president added that the club is already planning significant changes. “From now until July, you are going to see fundamental changes that will make it a better team for the CAF Champions League competition,” he stated. The promise of early squad strengthening and better preparation signals Vipers’ intent to go beyond their previous continental performances.

With domestic dominance secured, Vipers now shift focus to building a squad capable of making a deeper run in Africa. If Mulindwa’s words translate into action, the Venoms could be Uganda’s best hope of breaking new ground in the CAF Champions League next season.
