Matu Powers Mutasa Kafeero FC to Round of 16 with Hat-trick Against NFAI FC

The battle for UGX 50 million continued at Hamz Stadium, Nakivubo, in the HAMZ Cup. Brian Tumusiime “Matu” was the hero tonight, netting a hat-trick as Mutasa Kafeero FC defeated NFAI FC to book a place in the Round of 16.

The hat-trick took the teenage midfielder to 5 goals in two games and put him top of the tournament’s scoring chart. He found the net in both halves.

Matu opened the scoring with a top-notch finish just three minutes from kickoff — a goal that gave the team he captains the lead at halftime. He then added two more in the second half, in the 60th and 83rd minutes.

With the win, Mutasa Kafeero have reached the Round of 16 with a maximum 6 points. They lead Group B after defeating both Sanyu D Bags FC and NFAI FC, who sit second and third.

They will return to action on August 25 for their final group stage game against Kkona United. NFAI FC will be back earlier, on August 12, against Sanyu D Bags FC to fight for the second knockout spot from Group B.

In Group A, Tororo Boys have already qualified for the next stage. Titans FC also boosted their chances with a 6-2 win over 10-man Leopards FC.

Their mission can be completed against a tough test against Spanish Salleh Tiles on August 4. Both teams are level on 3 points. The winner will progress, while a draw will see Titans FC go through.

The tournament returns to action on Friday, July 31, with round three of the group stage. Bakuli Car Dealers will take on Best of the Best FC, while Life Team will face Ngeye Transporters to close out Group H.

Heading into the final round, Bakuli Car Dealers are already out. Ngeye Transporters and Life Team are tied on 4 points. Best of the Best can replace Life Team in second with a win on Friday, or even top the group if Ngeye Transporters fail to win.
