Kho Kho Coaching Course Strengthens Development Drive in Uganda

The development of Kho Kho in Uganda has received another boost following the completion of a three day Level One Coaching Course held at Bishop East Primary School in Mukono Municipality.

The course climaxed today with the awarding of certificates to more than 30 participants drawn from different parts of the country, marking another important step in the federation’s efforts to build a pool of qualified personnel to support the growth of the sport.

The course was graced by Robert Sozzi, Vice President of Kho Kho Uganda, who served as the chief guest during the closing ceremony. Sozzi challenged the newly certified coaches to become good ambassadors of the sport and use their knowledge to contribute to its development.

He emphasised the importance of proper game management, warning that poor management of the sport could undermine the very objectives and goals that Kho Kho Uganda is seeking to achieve.

Oroma Sharon, Vice Technical Director of Kho Kho Uganda, said the coaching course is intended to address some of the challenges that have continued to hinder the development of Kho Kho in Uganda.

She noted that equipping coaches with standardised technical knowledge will help improve the quality of training, competition and overall administration of the game as it continues to expand across the country.

The host of the course, Cyrus Semuhara, who also serves as the Mukono Municipality Sports Officer, highlighted the importance of investing in technical personnel as Uganda seeks to establish a stronger foundation for Kho Kho.

According to Semuhara, such courses are critical in ensuring that the sport does not only attract more participants but also develops competent officials capable of nurturing talent at grassroots level.

The training attracted more than 30 participants with a common ambition of taking Kho Kho to a higher level through certified coaching.

The course is particularly significant as it becomes the first Level One coaching course conducted by Kho Kho Uganda, following the recently concluded Level One National Refereeing Course that produced a new pool of certified referees.

The two courses form part of a broader development push by Kho Kho Uganda to strengthen the technical structures of the sport, improve standards and create a sustainable pathway for the game from grassroots level to national and international competition.

With more coaches and referees now receiving formal training, Kho Kho Uganda is betting on qualified human resources to drive the next phase of the sport’s growth across the country.
