Husnah Kukundakwe
Para swimmer Husnah Kukundakwe won Uganda’s first medal at the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games. She claimed silver in the SB8 100m breaststroke.
BASKETBALL
Uganda Women’s 3×3 Gazelles
The Gazelles made history in Glasgow by winning Uganda’s first-ever women’s 3×3 silver medal at the 2026 Commonwealth Games.
The team of Melissa Akullu, Jane Asinde, Jamila Nansikombi, and Perus Nyamwenge dominated Pool A with wins over Kenya [21-5], Cayman Islands [27-7], and Jamaica [18-17].
They advanced to the final with a 21-12 semifinal victory over Tonga at the Scottish Event Campus, before falling 21-11 to Australia in the gold medal match.

Archery’s headline nominee, Precious Allan Asiimwe, made history in Oran, Algeria, by becoming Uganda’s first-ever African Archery Champion. He won gold in the Para Recurve category at the African Archery Championships, defeating world No.29 Izri Abdelkader of Algeria in a dramatic shoot-off.
The Ugandan team in Algeria also included Bashir Mutyaba [Para Recurve] and Shiloh Kamukama Ayebare [U18 Recurve].
From Commonwealth silver in basketball to historic gold in archery and a Commonwealth swimming medal, July was a massive month for Ugandan sport.
