Buwambo United edged Simba FC 1-0 at Buwambo Playground on Sunday to lift the Buganda Region League title for the 2025-26 season with 67 points. Black Stars FC did the same in Kampala, edging Edgars FC to clinch the Kampala Region League title by just one point over Proline FC.
With everything still to play for over two legs, here are the players who could decide the tie.
Buwambo United: Key Players

1. Kevin Ssenabulya, Goalkeeper
Ssenabulya also features for YMCA in the Pepsi University Football League. He compensates for his smaller frame with explosive agility, elite positioning, quick reflexes, brave 1v1 play, strong distribution, and smart command of his box.
He was instrumental for Buwambo all season, and for YMCA he conceded just two goals in the entire University League campaign. That form earned him two awards: MVP and Best Goalkeeper in the Pepsi University League.

2. Ayman Twaha Toure, Centre-back
The lanky defender commands his area, wins aerial duels, and is strong in one-on-one situations. Ayman brings leadership and experience, having captained both Edgars FC and Buddu Ssaza FC before.
3. Innocent Ongurucho, Defensive Midfielder
Ongurucho initiates attacks and provides defensive cover. He first made his mark with Bugerere in last season’s Masaza Cup.
4. Abubakali Kalungi, Attacker
Kalungi has a high footballing brain and remains in Buwambo fans’ minds after scoring the only goal on the final day to defeat Simba FC and lift the Buganda Region League title. He was also pivotal as Buweekula won the 2025 Masaza Cup trophy.

5. Alex Kiyaga, Captain
The defender led from the back and registered six assists this season, equal to winger Bernardo Kateregga.
Buwambo United are under the stewardship of head coach Patrick Kimuli and assistant coach Rayan Mozy Bukenya.

1. Siraje Masembe Quintana, Goalkeeper
Masembe uses his height to dominate aerially, extend his shot-stopping range, command the box, and add physical presence in 1v1s. His reach and frame shrink the goal for attackers. He was named Best Goalkeeper in the Kampala Region League and was instrumental in Black Stars’ title run.
2. Sam Ssekito, Holding Midfielder
The most experienced player in this tie, Ssekito previously played left-back for URA FC and Soltilo Bright Stars FC in the StarTimes Uganda Premier League. Many thought he had retired, but he still has plenty in his feet.

At Black Stars he is deployed in holding midfield, where his left-footed passing angles, clean ball retention, strong left-side defending, accurate long switches, set-piece variety, and tactical flexibility add balance and unpredictability. He has scooped multiple Man of the Match awards in the Kampala Region League.
3. Alex Ssekyanzi, Winger
Very pacy with an eye for goal, Ssekyanzi scored the only goal on the last day against Edgars Youth FC at Wankulukuku to seal the title for Black Stars.

4. Ivan Agamire, Midfielder
Agamire thrives as a calm, creative midfielder with silky close control, sharp vision, quick dribbling in tight spaces, high work rate, and composure to beat pressure with technique. He has been scoring goals for fun in the Kampala Region League this season.
5. Benon Lutaaya, Striker
A natural goal-poacher with lethal finishing, smart off-the-ball movement, sharp instincts in the box, strong hold-up play, and confidence to turn half-chances into goals. Very young and energetic, a product of USSSA, Lutaaya was the Kampala Region League top scorer with 22 goals.

Black Stars FC are managed by Abdul Ssekajja. If there is a crop of young coaches in Ugandan football, Ssekajja should be included. He blends tactical organization, sharp in-game adjustments, smart build-up coaching, set-piece design, player development, and strong man-management to get teams playing organized, winning football. He was the mastermind behind Black Stars clinching the Kampala Region League title for the second time.
With promotion and Big League pride at stake, Saturday’s first leg at Wankulukuku promises a tight, tactical contest.
