Vipers SC Set for Another Payday from Allan Okello’s Move to AS FAR Rabat
Vipers SC could be set for another big financial boost after Uganda Cranes star Allan Okello completed a reported move from Tanzanian champions Young Africans to Moroccan giants AS FAR Rabat.
The playmaker, fondly called “Star Boy,” joined Yanga in January 2026 from Vipers for a reported $300,000. He quickly made his mark, scoring 14 league goals and providing several assists as the Tanzanian club defended the NBC Premier League title.
Young Africans president Hersi Said confirmed the departure but left the door open for a return.
“Although we have sold Okello, this is still his home. He can return whenever we want him back or whenever he wants to return,” Hersi said.
Reports suggest the transfer to AS FAR is worth between $1 million and $1.5 million. While neither club has confirmed the final fee, the deal could also bring more money to Vipers.
When Okello left Kitende in January, Vipers included a sell-on clause in the deal. The exact percentage is not public, but it means the Venoms will now receive a percentage of the profit from his sale to Morocco.
Okello played his last game for Yanga in the Community Shield against Simba before sealing the move to Rabat.
At AS FAR, he will reunite with former Yanga coach Pedro Gonçalves. The switch also marks his return to North Africa, having previously played for Algerian side AC Paradou after leaving KCCA FC.
AS FAR reached the CAF Champions League final last season, giving Okello another shot at top-level continental football.
Young Africans have already lined up a replacement, bringing back Burkina Faso international Aziz Ki.
For Vipers, this deal is more than just money — it’s proof that developing and selling Ugandan talent to bigger African clubs can pay off.
