UWA FC Resumes Preparations For 2026/27 Season Under New Coach John Ongodia
Uganda Wildlife Authority Football Club officially returned to training on August 2 as preparations for the 2026/27 season got underway.
Players and technical staff reported back to duty at Namulonge, marking the start of a new chapter under Head Coach John Ongodia, who replaces Andrew Mugagga at the helm of the Silverbacks.
The team’s main target is the upcoming Buganda Regional League campaign. UWA FC will be looking to bounce back after falling short against Buwambo last season in their bid to return to the FUFA Big League, Uganda’s second division.
Off the pitch, the Namulonge-based side will also feature in the Inter-Forces Games, where they will face other uniformed teams including UPDF FC, Uganda Police FC, Maroons FC, and more.
Squad Changes
During the off-season, UWA FC released 10 players:
Ronnie Ziraba, Joeram Ogen, Rashid Ssemwogerere, Alloysious Ssempiira, Faizal Ssekyanzi, Donald Wafula, Richard Asiku, Moses Kasagga, Jamil Kajubi, and Hakim Nsamba.
With renewed energy, fresh ambition, and clear objectives, the squad has now turned its focus to pre-season as it builds toward a competitive campaign with promotion to the FUFA Big League firmly in sight.
John Ongodia: Coaching Career & History
- Onduparaka FC: Served as both assistant coach and head coach before resigning in December 2025, citing unpaid salaries.
- Buhimba United Saints FC: Worked as an assistant coach and helped guide the team to promotion.
- Other Clubs: Has managed Arua City FC, Blacks Power FC, Calvary FC, and Bukedea Town Council. He has also coached women’s teams including Lady Doves FC and She Corporate FC.
