The National Resistance Movement (NRM) has outlined a comprehensive sports development plan in its 2026-2031 manifesto, focusing on several key areas:

Infrastructure Development: The NRM pledges to build new stadiums in Hoima and Lira, upgrade the Mandela National Stadium, and complete the National High-Altitude Training Centre in Kapchorwa. Additionally, the party aims to establish minimum zonal infrastructure of two stadiums per subregion to facilitate training and development of talents from the grassroots.

Talent Development and Youth Employment: The party positions sports as a driver of jobs, wealth creation, and tourism, with a focus on youth employment and socio-economic transformation. Schools will play a greater role in talent identification, supported by regional creative hubs that will double as sports development centers.

Integration with Creative Economy: The NRM proposes linking sports with arts, culture, and tourism to position Uganda as a global talent and cultural hub, driving jobs, national pride, and international visibility.

Co-hosting International Events: The party aims to successfully co-host the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations with Kenya and Tanzania, using events like CHAN and AFCON to attract further investment and exposure.

Private Sector Partnerships: The NRM will pursue partnerships with private sector stakeholders to finance new stadiums, training centers, and sports development programs sustainably.

By focusing on these areas, the NRM aims to transform Uganda’s sports sector, promote youth development, and showcase the country’s talent globally
