Relief for Andy Mwesigwa as Ex-Cranes Captain Confirms School Safe Ahead of New Term
Former Uganda Cranes captain Andy Mwesigwa has received relief in his battle against bank fraud and has reassured parents about the next academic term.
After his recent public appeal for help, Mwesigwa’s complaint against a bank that he accused of fraudulently attempting to sell his school has attracted public attention and vital support.
On Tuesday, August 26, Mwesigwa updated parents and students about the next term which starts on September 14, 2026.
“Thank you to all the people who responded to my call; now I want to inform parents and students that our school is no longer in trouble; AMESCO is going nowhere until the end of this year,” Mwesigwa said.
“We are now ready to welcome our students for the next term and would also like to inform parents that we are still offering bursaries to the less privileged,” he added.
Mwesigwa recently appeared at Jevine Hotel in Ndeeba where he appealed to the public through the media fraternity over a disputed loan with ABC Bank. He alleged the bank forged a loan of Shs 480 million, which he claims he had already serviced with over Shs 400 million.
The former Cranes defender had earlier filed a complaint in the Commercial Court before going public, alleging that the bank had inflated the interest to Shs 1.3 billion. He called upon President Yoweri Museveni, CDF Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba, the Ministry of Education and Sports, and the general public for intervention.
“I am objecting not because I don’t want to pay, but because I want to pay the right amount of money I actually owe, rather than a fraudulently inflated sum,” Mwesigwa stated.
Mwesigwa said he was forced to seek public intervention after court ordered him to pay 30% of the Shs 1.3 billion debt within one month to be heard.
He has since been heard, although he declined to disclose details about the status of the pending case.
