Over 2,000 Students Flagged Off As Team Uganda On A Mission For A Sixth Straight FEASSSA Games Title
Over 2,000 students and officials have been flagged off to represent Uganda at the East Africa Secondary Schools Games in Morogoro, Tanzania, as the country chases a sixth consecutive overall title.
On Saturday, August 8, at the Uganda National Council of Sports, State Minister for Sports, Hon. Peter Ogwang, flagged off the contingent. The team comprises boys and girls from a majority of secondary schools and seven primary schools who will compete in the regional games.
Rugby player Patrick Balugire of Makerere College School will captain the team, while badminton player Kate Ndagire from Rubaga Girls has been named vice-captain.
Speaking ahead of the trip, Balugire expressed confidence in the team.
“We are going to Tanzania to perform. I am confident in my team. We have done it before, and we can do it again and again,” he said.
Vice-captain Ndagire also shared her thoughts on the preparations and expectations.
“We have had preparations from our schools, to districts, zones, and nationals. I believe that is enough preparation. Now, representing Uganda against other nations, we are not only aiming for exposure but also to continue keeping Uganda as the best sporting nation among the participating countries,” she added.
Uganda has dominated the Federation of East Africa Secondary Schools Sports Associations (FEASSSA) Games in the last five editions, winning the overall title in 2019, 2022, 2023, 2024, and 2025.
A total of 28 trophies are up for grabs in disciplines including cricket, rugby, badminton, netball, volleyball, football, basketball, Scrabble, table tennis, hockey, and others at the secondary school level, before the overall trophy is awarded to the best-performing East African nation.
