NEC FC Defender Jacob Okao Sidelined for 6-12 Months with Achilles Tendon Injury
NEC FC’s stalwart defender, Jacob Okao, has been ruled out for an extended period after undergoing surgery for an Achilles tendon rupture.

The club confirmed that Okao successfully underwent the procedure at Case Clinic, thanks to the Official FUFA Medical Insurance Scheme.
Okao’s unfortunate injury occurred during NEC FC’s match against Police FC on Saturday, forcing him to be substituted.

Diagnostic tests later revealed the extent of the damage, and the defender is now expected to be out for 6-12 months as he begins his rehabilitation journey.
NEC FC will undoubtedly miss Okao’s tenacious defending and leadership in the heart of the defense. His absence will be felt, and the club will need to rely on other players to fill the gap.

Possible replacements could be Ibrahim Kiyemba, Bayiga Patrick, or Warren Buule, all of whom have shown promise in the defensive lineup.
The severity of Okao’s injury is compounded by the timing, coming off the back of an impressive season where he was voted the best club defender for the 2024-25 season.

This accolade is a testament to his hard work and dedication, and NEC FC will be eager to see him return to the pitch stronger than ever. Currently, NEC FC has accumulated two points from two matches, and the team will need to dig deep to overcome the challenges posed by Okao’s long-term absence.
