He said that from the very first call‑up, wearing the green and white had meant everything to him. He recalled that he had been just a young lad when the adventure began, and he had been invited at the same time to the U‑20, U‑23 and the Super Eagles. He added that he had been young, still learning, and always on the move, yet he had never complained. He stated that whenever Nigeria had called, he had answered without hesitation. He noted that football had taken him across the world, but Nigeria had always been home.

He revealed that playing 111 matches for his country was something he cherished deeply, and that becoming the most capped player in Nigerian history was a great honour. He explained that every time he had donned the jersey, he had understood the responsibility it carried, and he had given his all, whether things were going well or not, because representing Nigeria had felt bigger than himself.

He reminisced that there were moments he would never forget. He highlighted that winning the 2013 AFCON would always stand out, and that the team had shown what it truly meant to play for Nigeria. He added that scoring at the World Cup against Argentina and Iceland were memories he would always carry, and that scoring four World Cup goals and becoming Nigeria’s top goalscorer on that stage was something he was truly grateful for.

He said that being captain of the Super Eagles had been another pivotal part of his journey. He remarked that wearing the armband had taught him a lot about responsibility, patience, and putting others first. He clarified that it had not been about being in charge, but about helping the team, supporting younger players, and standing up for the badge. He emphasized that even through difficult times and criticism, his commitment to Nigeria had never wavered. He noted that football had given him a career, but Nigeria had given him meaning.

He expressed gratitude to his teammates over the years, the coaches, backroom staff, and administrators, thanking them for believing in him. He also thanked the fans at home and abroad, in stadiums and in front of their TVs, saying their support had meant more to him than they knew.
