KCCA FC finally found their winning touch in the 2026/27 Uganda Premier League season, edging Kataka FC 1-0 at home on Wednesday evening to register their first victory of the campaign.
Emmanuel Anyama was the difference-maker, calmly finishing from a beautifully delivered Sammy Ssebaduka ball in the second half to hand the Kasasiro Boys maximum points and, perhaps more importantly, a much-needed boost in confidence.
The result comes after a difficult opening three matches in which KCCA suffered defeats to NEC FC and Express FC before settling for a draw against Kigezi HomeBoyz.
Kataka had the first clear opportunity of the game in the 20th minute when a poor back pass from Etienne Katenga presented Ali Ssentamu with a golden chance.

Ssentamu beat the goalkeeper with his effort, but his attempt narrowly missed the target.
KCCA responded strongly, with Ssebaduka coming close in the 33rd minute when his header rattled the woodwork before Kataka defender Olinga completed the clearance.
Seven minutes later, Ibrahim Kasule came even closer after connecting with another Ssebaduka delivery, only for his header to strike the woodwork as both sides went into the break level.
The breakthrough eventually arrived after the restart.
Ssebaduka once again turned provider, delivering a quality ball for Anyama, who made no mistake with his finish to give KCCA a 1-0 lead.
Head coach Brian Ssenyondo then made tactical adjustments to protect the advantage, with KCCA showing greater defensive discipline to see out the remaining minutes and claim all three points.
For Ssenyondo, the victory could not have come at a better time, with the result helping to ease the pressure that had built around the team following their difficult start.
“The win has relieved the pressure from the boys. We have been working hard, and finally getting the three points is important for their confidence,” Ssenyondo said.
The KCCA head coach also believes the international break has arrived at the right moment, giving his technical team an opportunity to assess the team’s weaknesses and work on correcting them before the league resumes.
“The international break has come at the right time for us. We have weaknesses that we need to correct, and this gives us time to look at the team, assess what has not been working and prepare better for the next game,” Ssenyondo added.
KCCA will return to league action on October 9 when they travel to Hamz Stadium, Nakivubo, to face URA FC.
The break could also provide the club with an opportunity to strengthen its attacking options, with reports linking the Lugogo side with a possible reunion with striker Ivan Ahimbisibwe before the transfer window closes on September 19.
Meanwhile, elsewhere on Matchday Four, Police FC secured a 2-0 away victory over Lugazi FC, while Mbarara City and Entebbe UPPC played out a goalless draw in Kamwenge.
The matchday continues on Thursday, with Express FC hosting Kitara FC under the floodlights at Hamz Stadium, Nakivubo, while Maroons FC travel to face UPDF FC in the early kick-off.
Kataka will return to action on October 7 when they host SC Villa.
