Busitema University Makes Uganda Proud With Double Bronze At All African University Games
Busitema University has marked a significant milestone on the continental stage, returning to the podium with two bronze medals at the 12th All Africa University Games in Cairo, Egypt.
The university’s men’s chess team and orienteering representatives delivered impressive performances to secure bronze medals in their respective disciplines, giving Busitema University another reason to celebrate its growing footprint in university sport.
Representing Uganda at the prestigious continental games, Busitema’s athletes competed against some of the finest university teams from across Africa, showcasing not only sporting talent but also the institution’s commitment to developing well-rounded students through both education and sport.
In the Chess Blitz Tournament, held at Ain Shams University in Cairo, Busitema’s Rubangakene Ceaser and Byawaka Alvin Herbert combined their skills to guide the university to a bronze medal.
The pair faced strong opposition from university teams across the continent, maintaining their composure and tactical discipline in the fast-paced Blitz format to secure a place on the podium.
Busitema added another bronze medal in Orienteering, with Worem Dickline and Omara Timothy representing the university in the demanding competition.
Their achievement further underlined the versatility of Busitema University’s sporting programme, with the institution making its mark across different sporting disciplines at one of Africa’s biggest university sporting events.
The medals are particularly significant for Busitema University, a science- and technology-focused institution whose participation in the All Africa University Games demonstrates that academic excellence and sporting development can progress hand in hand.
Beyond the medals, the university’s participation represents an important milestone in its journey to provide students with opportunities to compete at national, continental and international levels.
By competing in Cairo, Busitema’s students have carried the university’s name beyond Uganda’s borders while also contributing to Uganda’s representation at the continental university sports level.
The performances by Rubangakene, Byawaka, Worem and Omara have therefore provided more than podium finishes. They have demonstrated the potential of Ugandan university athletes when given the platform, preparation and opportunity to compete against continental opposition.
