Reigning champions Kawempe Muslim Ladies FC will begin their 2026/27 Finance Trust Bank FUFA Women Super League (FWSL) title defence at home against newly promoted Jinja United WFC as the new season gets underway on Saturday, September 19, 2026.
The fixture, scheduled for 4:00pm at St. Mary’s Stadium, Kitende, headlines the opening round of fixtures released by the Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA) following the successful completion of the club licensing process.
The encounter will also make history as the first FWSL fixture to be played as part of FUFA’s newly introduced season double-header programme.
Vipers SC will host Ntugasaze FC at the same venue later that evening at 8:00pm in a Uganda Premier League fixture, giving fans an opportunity to watch both women’s and men’s top-flight football on the same matchday.
The double-header initiative will see FWSL and Uganda Premier League matches staged at selected venues during the first round of the season.
FUFA Competitions Director Shawn Mubiru said seven such double-headers will be held across three stadiums during the first round.
“This season we have introduced season double headers where a stadium will host an FWSL match and the UPL game on the same day. We shall have seven double headers in the first round, hosted at three stadiums: St. Mary’s Stadium, Kitende, Hamz Stadium-Nakivubo and MTN Omondi Stadium,” Mubiru said.
The initiative is partly linked to the UPL club licensing requirements, which require clubs to either own a women’s team or establish a partnership with an existing women’s team.
According to Mubiru, the arrangement is intended to expose women’s football to larger audiences while also improving access to quality playing infrastructure.
“This will give an opportunity for female matches to be played across different parts of the country, use good infrastructure, play in front of UPL fans and promote the women’s game while also getting a new fan base,” he added.
New kick-off time
Another notable change for the new campaign is the standardisation of FWSL kick-off times.
Following consultations between FUFA and the participating clubs, all FWSL matches will now kick off at 4:00pm across the country.
The change was approved by the FUFA Executive Committee and is expected to provide greater consistency around match scheduling while making fixtures more accessible to supporters.
Five more matches on Sunday
The remaining five opening-round fixtures will be played on Sunday, September 20, with all matches kicking off at 4:00pm.
URA Ladies FC will host KCCA Women FC at Hamz Stadium-Nakivubo in one of the weekend’s standout fixtures.
At Nsibirwa Play Ground, Makerere University WFC will entertain Amus College WFC, while Lady Doves FC will face Uganda Martyrs H/S WFC at Katusabe Dove Play Ground.
Rines SS WFC will host She Maroons FC at Kabaka Kyabaggu Stadium, while She-Corporate FC will welcome St. Noa Girls-Zana FC at the FUFA Technical Centre in Njeru.
With 12 teams competing for the Finance Trust Bank FUFA Women Super League title, the new season promises another competitive battle for supremacy.
For Kawempe Muslim, the immediate task will be to make a strong start against a Jinja United side that has earned promotion to the top flight and will be eager to announce its arrival on the biggest stage.
The 2026/27 FWSL season therefore opens with both a familiar challenge and a new era, as defending champions seek another title while FUFA expands efforts to grow the visibility, reach and commercial appeal of women’s football in Uganda.
