Mubiru Opens Azam Account as Azam FC Sink Namungo 2-0
Hassan Mubiru scored his first ever goal for Azam FC as they secured a 2-0 victory over Namungo FC in their sixth game of the NBC Tanzania Premier League season at the Azam Complex Stadium.
Azam opened the scoring in the 27th minute after Namungo goalkeeper Abraham Suleiman failed to deal with Kipre Junior’s long-range effort. The keeper parried the shot into the path of Mubiru, who pounced on the rebound to give the hosts the lead.
It was Mubiru’s first goal in Azam colours since joining the club from Ugandan giants SC Villa.
Gibril Sillah sealed all three points for Azam deep into stoppage time in the 90+5th minute.
The win takes Azam to third place on the log with 14 points from six matches.
Mubiru, who now has one goal and two assists for Azam this season, reflected on the victory:
“The game was good, it wasn’t an easy game. We thank Allah for this great victory in today’s encounter.”
Asked what his first goal meant to him, he said:
“This goal means a lot to me. It will push me to work even harder for more goals. I think this is a good start for me to score in Tanzania. It’s a bit different from the league where I came from. I thank Allah for this.”
On the fans’ support:
“To the fans, we thank you for your support, it was really amazing. Your support means a lot to us. It pushes us to deliver more for you.”
On Azam’s title ambitions:
“You know we are chasing the title this season. We came into this game wanting to win, so I thank my teammates for the spirited fight.”
Mubiru also had a message for the Azam faithful and a special dedication:
“To Azam FC fans everywhere, we need you to come and support us.”
“I dedicate this award to my mum, Nakandi Aida. I really appreciate your effort, mum.”
With his debut goal now out of the way, Mubiru will be looking to build on his promising start and play a key role as Azam FC continue their push for the NBC Tanzania Premier League title.
