The exciting and growing Hamz Cup football tournament has finished the group stage and is now one step away from the prize money bracket. The final slot in the round of 16 went to Entebbe-based side Shan David’s FC after they outclassed Buganda Kombucha 4-0 on Tuesday, August 25, at Hamz Stadium, Nakivubo War Memorial.
Bonny Viany Kigenyi scored a second-half brace, Joseph Yiga opened the scoring, and overlapping left-back Ismail Lubega sent in a tempting cross that forced Charles Ntulume to score an own goal. The dominant result helped Shan David’s FC finish second in Group D with 4 points. They joined Man United Fans UG, who topped the group with 7 points from three matches.
Team boss Wasswa David hailed his team’s performance and raised expectations: “I am highly impressed with this performance; it has been fantastic. We have found a new lifeline and new hope. Now we are here to take the trophy to Entebbe Road.”
In the next stage, the two teams await opponents from the other seven groups, including Mutaasa Kafeero FC, who completed the group stage on a high by defeating Kkona FC 6-0.
Mezala Brian Tumusiime Matu scored six times in the first game of the day, taking his tally to 11 goals in just three matches and reclaiming his status as the tournament’s top scorer.
The round of 16 is expected to commence soon, with the draw to decide fixtures before the double-legged round that will determine the teams that enter the prize money bracket.
