Sam Ssimbwa Makes Sensational Return to URA FC as Head Coach

URA FC have confirmed the return of veteran tactician Sam Ssimbwa as their new Head Coach on a one-year renewable contract.

Ssimbwa replaces Jimmy Kintu Mwera, who left the club on Monday by mutual consent along with his entire backroom staff.

Fondly known as “Omulangira” in football circles, Ssimbwa makes a return to familiar territory where he previously served between 2018 and 2021. During his first stint with the Tax Collectors, he came agonizingly close to winning the StarTimes Uganda Premier League title in the 2020/21 season, finishing second behind Express FC.

His appointment comes at a crucial time as URA FC look to revive their campaign in the ongoing 2026/27 StarTimes Uganda Premier League season.

Ssimbwa is one of the most experienced coaches in the region, having handled a host of top clubs including Express FC, KCCA FC, SC Villa, Kitara FC, Tusker FC of Kenya, Tanzania’s Simba SC, Sofapaka FC and the now-defunct SC Victoria University. He also served as Assistant Coach for the Uganda Cranes, a role he left in November 2025.

According to the club, the experienced gaffer is expected to take charge with immediate effect, starting with tonight’s league fixture against UPDF FC at Hamz Stadium, Nakivubo.

URA FC added that Ssimbwa’s full backroom staff will be announced in due course.
