Federation of Uganda Football Associations FUFA is set to try a new league format in the Kampala Region League.

Let’s break down the format and its potential impact.
The New Format
First Round: 15 games in a round-robin format
Second Round: Teams divided into two groups (Top 8 and Bottom 8) playing home-and-away matches
Third Round: Top 6 teams compete for the title, while bottom 2 teams from Top 8 join top 2 teams from Bottom 8 for relegation playoffs

The league features 16 teams, including:
- Proline FC
- Mbogo FC

“We have also agreed (with the top division clubs) that this particular format is tried and tested in a lower league competition,” Hon. @MosesMagogo
Kampala Region League could be the testing ground for the new format.

Impacts of the New Format
Increased competition: More matches and a clearer structure could lead to more exciting games.
Challenges for smaller clubs: Increased travel costs and scheduling issues might affect teams with limited resources.
Uncertainty: Will the new format improve the league’s overall quality and fan engagement?
What’s Next?
FUFA’s review: The federation will assess the new format’s performance in the Kampala Region League.
Potential adjustments: Changes might be made based on feedback from teams, fans, and officials
Future implementation: If successful, the format could be adopted in higher leagues or even the Uganda Premier League
