Allan Okello Caps Yanga’s Dominance With Back-To-Back Player of the Month award

Ugandan attacking midfielder Allan Okello has been named the NBC Premier League Player of the Month for May 2026, marking his second consecutive win and underscoring Young Africans’ stranglehold on individual honors this season.

Okello’s latest award comes off the back of a scorching month in front of goal, where he netted nine times and added one assist in seven league appearances. His form has been central to Yanga’s push for the Tanzania Premier League title, giving them a two-point lead over Simba SC after 25 matches.

The 25-year-old’s impact in May was decisive. Okello averaged more than a goal per game, finding the net in crucial moments to keep Yanga ahead in a tight title race. His combination of vision, late runs into the box, and clinical finishing has made him one of the league’s most feared attackers. With Yanga set to return to action on Saturday away to Mashuja, Okello will look to extend his hot streak and help the club maintain its position at the top of the table with 60 points.

Okello’s May award also highlights Young Africans’ dominance of the NBC Player of the Month accolade in 2025/26. Yanga players have won five of the nine monthly awards so far.

The club’s haul began with Malian Diarra in September, continued with Kenyan midfielder Abuya in December, Angolan forward Depu in February, and now Okello in April and May. The only months won by players outside Yanga were October for Fountain Gate’s Abushiri, November for Namungo’s Ngoy, January for Dodoma Jiji’s Edgar, and March for Singida Black Stars’ Imoro.

That spread of winners speaks to Yanga’s squad depth and attacking quality, and Okello’s consecutive awards signal he is currently the league’s standout performer. If he keeps this pace, the Ugandan international could play a defining role in delivering another league crown to Jangwani and further cement his reputation as one of East Africa’s most dangerous playmakers.
