GAKUMBA BENJAMIN BECOMES KIGEZI HOMEBOYZ FC’S FIRST SIGNING AHEAD OF UPL DEBUT

Kigezi HomeBoyz FC have announced the signing of central defender Gakumba Benjamin on a two-year contract.
The 22-year-old becomes the Gorillas’ first addition of the 2026/27 transfer window as the club prepares for its historic maiden season in the Uganda Premier League.
Benjamin joins after the expiry of his contract with Express FC. He brings valuable UPL experience and is expected to add quality, composure and defensive strength to the squad.
Despite his young age, the defender has already played for several respected Ugandan clubs including Mbarara University, Tooro United and Express FC.

Kigezi HomeBoyz described him as a player with excellent game reading, strong positional awareness and a relentless work ethic.
Benjamin began his football journey at Kigezi Harambe Soccer Academy before moving to Mbarara University between 2019 and 2021.
He then featured for Tooro United in the 2021/22 season and later spent three seasons at Express FC competing at the highest level of Ugandan football.
Each step, the club says, has helped shape a disciplined and mature defender ready for the next chapter.
Speaking after completing his move, Benjamin expressed his excitement about joining the Gorillas.
“I am happy to join this club. I am in love with the culture here, I love the fans and the vision of the club. I look forward to achieving great things with this club. I thank the club management for this great opportunity in my career,” he said.

Benjamin’s arrival marks the start of an ambitious recruitment drive as Kigezi HomeBoyz FC build a squad capable of competing in the Uganda Premier League following their promotion.
The club says the defender will play a key role in representing the Kigezi region with pride in the top flight.
