Midfielder Kimwero Signs New Contract

Uganda Premier League side NEC FC have secured the long term future of holding midfielder Shamir Kimwero after handing him a new five year contract.

The Diehards officially announced the extension on Tuesday, September 8, 2026, confirming their commitment to one of the key figures in their midfield.

“Shamir Kimwero has extended his stay with NEC FC, putting pen to paper on a new five-year contract,” the club announced through its social media channels.

Kimwero has established himself as a clinical and dependable defensive midfielder, combining disciplined positioning, ball winning ability and composure in possession to provide balance at the heart of NEC’s midfield.

His ability to read the game, break up opposition attacks and protect the backline has made him an important component of the club’s tactical setup. His work rate and consistency have also earned the confidence of the NEC management and coaching staff.

The five-year extension therefore represents more than just contract security for the player. It gives NEC continuity in an area of the pitch where consistency and tactical discipline are crucial as the club continues its pursuit of domestic success.

Kimwero’s retention comes at an encouraging start to NEC’s 2026/27 Uganda Premier League campaign. The Diehards have won both of their opening fixtures, defeating KCCA FC before following it up with another victory against Lugazi FC.

With Kimwero anchoring the midfield, NEC will now turn their attention to their next league assignment away to Mbarara City.

The Diehards travel to Rwamwanja Stadium on Friday, September 11, looking to maintain their perfect start and strengthen their early position among the league’s leading sides.
