Namasa Marks Return with Winner as Kitara FC Secure First League Victory
Kitara FC 1-0 Kigezi Homeboyz
Right-back Edward Namasa Tala marked his return from six months on the sidelines with injury by scoring the only goal that handed Kitara FC their first win of the season, beating Kigezi Homeboyz FC 1-0.
The goal came in the 23rd minute of the game played at Hoima City Stadium on Wednesday, October 7. The home side managed to hold onto the lead through both halves to walk away with all three points, leaving Kigezi winless after five games.
Kitara FC went into the game still winless, having played two away fixtures that both ended in 1-1 draws — against SC Villa at Muteesa II Stadium, Wankulukuku and Express FC at Hamz Stadium, Nakivubo.
With the win, the Royals have moved into the top half of the league with five points from three games, sitting 8th on the 16-team table after starting the day in 14th place.
Individually, Namasa became only the third player to score for the club in the league this season, joining Crispus Asiki, who scored against SC Villa, and Frank Tumwesige Zaga, who netted against Express FC.
Returning from the first international break, the Uganda Premier League had four games. The most shocking result came at the Kira Road Police Ground, where NEC? / Ntugasaze? FC picked up their first-ever top-flight win, defeating Mbarara City.
Jacob Opar scored the only goal of the game just minutes before halftime. In the other two games, Kataka FC held SC Villa to a 1-1 draw at the Bukede Comprehensive Stadium, while Maroons FC ran riot in the second half at Luzira Prisons Ground to thrash Lugazi FC 3-0.
