After Kyaggwe comfortably occupied the top spot in the Masengere Group, the remaining direct slot to the quarterfinals is now a battle between Gomba and Ssese.

This Saturday, the battle heats up head-to-head as Gomba travel to Lutoboka, a ground many teams have fallen at. It is regarded as the most intimidating Masaza Cup home to visit.

Since the appointment of youth coach Edrisa Walusimbi, Ssese have so far hosted 10 games, winning 7. The only team to take maximum points from them at Lutoboka since his arrival is Buluuli in Walusimbi’s first game there.

Apart from Buluuli, who defeated them 2-0 on 28th June 2025, only Bulemeezi and Kyaggwe have survived defeat at Lutoboka. Both teams drew 1-1.

Kyaggwe picked up their draw there in a quarterfinal return leg clash and sealed a semifinal slot. That fixture came after they had already defeated Ssese in Mukono 2-1.

The other team to survive there is Bulemeezi, who fought back from a goal down to draw 1-1 in the opening game of this season on June 6.

The seven wins have come with 1-0 victories over Gomba, Buddu, and Busujju, and 2-1 over Busiro last season. This season, Busiro were beaten 3-1, while Kyaggwe and Mawokota were also beaten 1-0 respectively.

Heading into the fixture, Gomba are four points behind leaders Kyaggwe. They have accumulated 12 points from 7 games and sit one point above Ssese in third position in the group.

Despite the hoped-for battle on the touchline between Walusimbi for Ssese and Felix Ssekabuuza for Gomba, the midfield could be another deciding point, with the main battle expected between Ssese captain John Ndugu and Peter Kyomuhendo of Gomba.

In the last five meetings between the two teams, Gomba have won three times: 1-0 at home and 3-1 away in 2023, and 2-1 in the first leg this season. Ssese won the fixture last season, 1-0 at home and 2-1 away.
