Kyagwe Reach Second Final in Three Years, Set Up Rematch with Gomba as Bugerere Crash Out at Home

Bugerere 0-0 Kyagwe (Agg: 0-1)

In front of a massive crowd, Kyagwe held Bugerere to a goalless draw at the Ntenjeru Ssaza Ground on Sunday, October 4, to advance to the Masaza Cup final.

There was jubilation for the visiting fans and stark silence for the home crowd.

Bugerere started with rapid attacks, but goalkeeper Joel Byamukama denied Usman Mayanja, Charles Ssekanda, and Collins Kafumbe twice in the first 25 minutes.

As Bugerere pushed to overturn their 1-0 first-leg deficit, drama unfolded when fans overpowered the perimeter fence and brought it down completely.

Kyagwe also had their chances, with Lauben Lubwama missing twice in either half. Goalkeeper Julius Ssenyonjo denied Shaban Kayongo and Emmanuel Shikanga in the first half, before Shikanga missed another opportunity after the break.

At the final whistle, it remained 0-0 and Kyagwe fans flooded the pitch, while security protected the match officials and players. Along the roadside, Bugerere fans stood in confusion, watching the celebrating Kyagwe supporters.

In a tightly contested tie, Kyagwe advanced to their second final in three years and will face Gomba in the final on October 31 at Muteesa II Stadium, Wankulukuku.

Kyagwe will be playing in only their second final in history, searching for their first-ever trophy after losing the 2024 final 1-0 to Buddu. Gomba will be appearing in their 10th final, targeting a sixth title — their first since 2020.

To reach their first final since 2023, Gomba defeated Butambala 3-0 on aggregate, winning 2-0 at home in the first leg and 1-0 away.
