Kyadondo Concede Late Equalizer As Angry Fans Confront Coach Nyanzi
In the Airtel Buganda Masaza Cup, Kyadondo threw away a 1-0 lead as Buvuma equalized in stoppage time, causing fans to turn on head coach Bright Nyanzi.
The match was played at the Santana Ground in Wampewo. Sam Ssemuggu, in his first match for Kyadondo, scored for the side just before halftime.
Ssemuggu converted from the penalty spot after Kenneth Ssebaduka was fouled on the right flank. Ssebaduka’s shot forced Umar Asilikwa to commit a handball offense in the Buvuma penalty area.
Referee Ibrahim Miiro awarded the penalty, and Ssemuggu, who had tried to score on several occasions, stepped up and buried the penalty beyond the reach of Buvuma goalkeeper Ssebayiga, despite a slight touch on the ball.
Kyadondo created multiple chances through players like Ssemuggu, Enock Ssekatawa, and Pius Kaggwa, most of which were denied by Buvuma goalkeeper Ssebayiga and captain Patrick Locastro. Ssebaduka also hit the crossbar, and the match remained 1-0 at halftime.
In the second half, Kyadondo continued as the better side and created the majority of the chances. However, Ssebayiga and Locastro kept Buvuma in the game, denying efforts from Ssemuggu, Ssekatawa, Kaggwa, and substitute Alex Mutebi.
Locastro cleared the ball off Kaggwa’s foot, and moments earlier he had also cleared Ssekatawa’s effort off the goal line with the goalkeeper already beaten.
Ssebayiga also made several saves to deny Ssekatawa, Ssemuggu, Ssebaduka, Kaggwa, and Mutebi.
However, Buvuma grew into the game and tested Kyadondo goalkeeper Ashiraf Bwabye, who made three saves. In the third minute of added time, former Kyadondo player Ibrahim Kasakya, with his hair untied, scored the equalizer for Buvuma.
After the match, the technical team named Kyadondo’s Abdul Razak Mumbeere as Man of the Match. Meanwhile, a section of Kyadondo fans voted Pius Kaggwa as their best player.
Shortly afterward, some fans began complaining about the coach’s tactical approach. When Coach Nyanzi came out of the dressing room, he was confronted by angry fans.
Upon noticing the angry crowd, he slipped back into the dressing room, but the fans followed and demanded answers about his tactics. The players, who were already on the bus, ran back to protect their coach.
Kyadondo have now four matches left in Bulange Group and they will return to action next Sunday at home against Buweekula.
In Bulange Kyadondo sit fifth on the table with 7 points from six matches.
