Masaza Cup Second Round Kicks Off With Goals, Late Drama, and Early Pressure
The 2026 Masaza Cup entered the second round over the weekend, with action spread across different counties as teams battled for early momentum in the race for the Buganda Kingdom crown.
The results delivered tight 1-0 wins, late equalizers, and growing pressure on struggling sides.
Masengere Group
At Lutoboka Playground, Ssese got their campaign back on track with a narrow 1-0 win over visitors Mawokota. Eseuna Steven Otim scored the only goal and was later named Man of the Match for his performance.

In Luweero, Kyagwe also edged Bulemeezi 1-0 thanks to a first-half strike from David Mugalu. The result completed a double for Kyagwe over Bulemeezi this season. For Bulemeezi, the defeat marked a third straight home loss and raised questions about their form.
At Kabulasoke, Gomba and Busiro settled for a 1-1 draw. Meddie Kasule put Gomba ahead in the 35th minute, but Wambedde struck 8 minutes into added time to snatch a point for Busiro.
Bulange Group
At Wampewo Playground, new Kyadondo signing Samuel Ssemuggu — who joins from Buganda Region League side UWA FC after a stint at UPL’s Lugazi FC — converted a penalty to give the hosts the lead. However, Naiman Shafik equalized for Buvuma to force a 1-1 draw. The dropped points left Kyadondo fans frustrated and increased pressure on head coach Bright Nyanzi and his technical team.
At Kakindu, Busujju and Buddu played out a cagey 0-0 draw with neither side able to find a breakthrough.
In Mubende, Mark Nsubuga scored the decisive goal as Buweekula defeated Buluuri 1-0 at Mubende PTC Playground.
Muganzirwaza Group
Butambala extended their unbeaten run with a 1-0 away win over Kooki. Gyagenda Shaban scored the lone goal, a result that puts Butambala top of Muganzirwaza with 14 points from 6 matches.
Mawogola also picked up a vital 1-0 win, with Ssenono Asuman netting an 84th-minute winner against Kabula.
At Ntejeru Playground, Bugerere got their first win of the round with a 1-0 victory over Ssingo. Mike Katumwa scored just before halftime. It was also the first match in charge for new Bugerere head coach Steven Bogere, giving last edition’s surprise package three important points.
The second round served up drama across all three groups, from last-gasp equalizers to perfect home records being broken. Butambala are setting the pace in Muganzirwaza, Kyagwe look strong in Masengere, while teams like Bulemeezi and Kyadondo already find themselves under pressure to respond.
With the tournament only gathering pace, the next round promises even tighter contests as counties fight to keep their Masaza Cup dreams alive.
