BUL FC climbed to the summit of the Uganda Premier League standings after handing SC Villa their first defeat of the 2026/27 campaign with a 2-1 victory at the FUFA Technical Centre in Njeru on Tuesday.

The Oil Manufacturers delivered an impressive performance to bring Villa’s unbeaten run to an end in a meeting between two sides that had both maintained their unbeaten records heading into the encounter.

BUL made their intentions clear from the opening exchanges, with Swabir Mpasa causing problems from set-pieces. His corner found Derrick Byabachwezi, whose header narrowly missed the target.

The hosts continued to pile pressure on the visitors, forcing Villa goalkeeper David Lukwago into action as he rushed off his line to deny Achidi’s dangerous delivery.

Villa had an opportunity to take the lead in the 15th minute after John Asiimwe was brought down inside the penalty area. However, the forward failed to convert from the spot as BUL goalkeeper Wokorach produced an excellent save to keep the game goalless.

BUL eventually found the breakthrough in the 25th minute. Mpasa showed great individual brilliance to work his way through the Villa defence before setting up Alex Kitata, who made no mistake with a composed finish.

The hosts doubled their lead just three minutes later when Byabachwezi capitalised on a well-delivered goal kick from Wokorach, connecting with a first-time half-volley to put BUL firmly in control.

Villa struggled to respond before the break but returned with renewed determination in the second half. Their efforts paid off in the 68th minute when Tonny Asiku unleashed a powerful effort that slipped through Wokorach’s hands to reduce the deficit and give the visitors hope of salvaging a result.

SC Villa pushed forward in the closing stages, desperately searching for an equaliser, but BUL remained organised at the back to protect their advantage and secure all three points.

The victory has significant implications at the top of the table, with BUL moving into first place on 23 points from nine matches.

SC Villa, meanwhile, drop to third position with 21 points, having played a game more. The result also marks the end of Villa’s unbeaten start to the season, leaving BUL as the side celebrating a crucial victory and the temporary control of the league summit.
