Blacks Power FC will start the 2026/27 Uganda Premier League season away from home after their ground, Ebenezer University Ground in Lira, failed to meet FUFA’s new stadium requirements.

The club confirmed the development in a statement issued to fans on Saturday, explaining that FUFA’s Licensing Department had classified the Lira facility under Category Two, while UPL matches must be played at grounds that meet International or Category One standards.

As a result, the newly promoted side has been directed to seek clearance from the National Council of Sports (NCS) to use Hoima City Stadium as their temporary home venue for the first round of the season.

“FUFA has implemented strict stadium standards, and unfortunately, Ebenezer University Ground is currently classified under Category Two, while UPL matches must be hosted at facilities falling under the International or Category One standards,” the club said in a statement.

According to the club, the move will allow them to continue working on the outstanding requirements at their Lira ground as they push for a return to their base, known as The Forest. The club also expressed hope for the completion of the Akii Bua Olympic Stadium in Lira, which is expected soon.

Blacks Power are now working to secure NCS clearance in time for the season opener. As per the released fixtures, the Black Warriors are scheduled to host Ntugasaze FC on Saturday, 29 August, before welcoming Police FC on 2 September.

The club admitted the decision comes with a heavy financial burden due to the extra costs of playing home games away from Lira, and appealed for support from fans and partners.

“This development comes with a significant financial burden for the club management, particularly with the additional costs associated with playing our home matches away from Lira. We therefore kindly appeal to our fans, supporters and partners for your emotional, moral and financial support during this challenging period,” the statement added.

The club, however, said it respects FUFA’s decision as the regulatory body and will comply fully with the licensing requirements.

“We respect FUFA’s decision as the regulatory body and shall fully comply with the requirements as we work towards bringing our home games back to The Forest. Our mission remains clear: STAYING IN THE LEAGUE,” the club noted.

Blacks Power said preparations for the new season are progressing well and that new signings will be unveiled soon.

The temporary relocation means the Lira-based fans will have to wait longer to watch top-flight football at home, but the club insists its focus remains on survival in the UPL and a return to Lira once the required upgrades are completed.
