AMUS COLLEGE CARRY UGANDA’S CECAFA LEGACY ON THEIR SHOULDERS
Uganda’s remarkable journey in the CECAFA Schools Football Championship enters a new chapter this year, with Amus College Secondary School tasked with carrying the country’s flag in Rwanda.
The Eastern Giants arrive in Kigali not just as Uganda’s national champions, but as custodians of a legacy built by their predecessors.
Royal Giant High School wrote the first chapter in 2022 when they became the inaugural CECAFA Schools Football Championship winners.
A year later, St Mary’s College Kitende followed suit, taking the regional title in 2023 and establishing Uganda as one of the dominant forces in the competition.
Kitende would go on to represent Uganda at the continental level three times in succession, eventually reaching the 2026 African Schools Football Championship final.
Now, the responsibility has shifted to Amus College.
The Ugandan champions must first navigate the CECAFA stage in Kigali, with victory not only guaranteeing regional glory but also keeping Uganda’s impressive run of qualifying for the continental championship alive.
For Amus, however, the mission is bigger than simply extending Uganda’s record.
They are chasing the continental crown that has so far remained beyond the reach of their predecessors.
WHAT IS AT STAKE?
Beyond national and regional pride, there is also significant financial motivation.
The CECAFA Schools Football Championship winners will pocket USD 100,000, while the runners-up will receive USD 75,000 and the third-placed team USD 50,000.
But for Amus College, the biggest reward could be the chance to write their own chapter in Uganda’s CAF Africa Schools Football Championship story.

Now it is Amus College’s turn.
The Eastern Giants have the opportunity to defend Uganda’s proud regional legacy, secure another continental appearance and, ultimately, take the final step their predecessors could not bringing the African Schools Football Championship title to Uganda.
The road begins in Kigali.
And the shoes Amus College are stepping into are heavy.
