FUFA BIG LEAGUE: Paidha Black Angels Maintain Perfect Start as Catda FC Continue Impressive Run

The FUFA Big League commenced in full swing last week with a number of thrilling encounters played across the country, producing goals, upsets, and early statements of intent from promotion-chasing sides.

At the Barokoro playground on Thursday, in-form Paidha Black Angels SC edged Iganga United Football Club 1-0 to maintain their perfect start to the campaign. Forward Jonathan Moses Kissaku scored the only goal of the game in the 38th minute of the first half to secure all three points for the hosts.

The result underlines Paidha Black Angels’ excellent run of form. Coach Mark Twinamatsiko’s side have now won all of their opening four matches in the FUFA Big League and sit top of the table with 12 points. Even more impressively, they have conceded only once this season, a defensive record that has kept their promotion ambitions very much alive.

It was a difficult week for Iganga United, who suffered two defeats in the space of three days. After losing to Paidha Black Angels on Thursday, they fell again on Sunday, going down 2-1 to Young Elephants Academy.

Elsewhere on Sunday, Rwenzori Lions and Kiyinda Boys FC shared the spoils in a tightly contested 0-0 draw.

In another eye-catching result, experienced forward Brian Omirambe scored the decisive goal as Catda Football Club edged Amus College FC 1-0 away from home. The victory marked Catda FC’s first away win of the campaign and their third win in four outings. The only blemish for Coach Richard Luyima’s side was their opening-day loss against SC Volcanoes. The Lufula Boys now sit second on the table with 9 points from four matches.

SC Volcanoes, coached by Saddick Sempigi, dropped two valuable points at home after being held to a goalless draw by Kaaro Karungi FC.

In Arua, former Uganda Premier League side Onduparaka FC were held to a 1-1 draw by Pakwach Young Stars in a fiercely contested West Nile derby.

At the Mwerwere playground, Buwambo United suffered a 1-0 home defeat to Calvary Football Club. It was Buwambo United’s second consecutive defeat in the FUFA Big League after three outings. The hosts will rue a missed penalty before Daniel Opio scored a dramatic 90th-minute winner for Calvary FC.

After the first four matches played , Paidha Black Angels have set the early pace with a flawless record, while Catda FC and SC Volcanoes are hot on their heels. With Iganga United and Buwambo United already struggling for consistency, the Big League is shaping up to be as unpredictable and competitive as ever, with the battle for promotion to the Uganda Premier League well and truly on.
