However, UCU mounted a spirited comeback, winning the third quarter 13-8 before edging the decisive final period 13-12 to secure a crucial one-goal victory and hand Prisons their first defeat of the campaign.
The dramatic finish was overshadowed by controversy after main umpire Kabiito initially appeared to award Prisons an equalising goal before reversing the decision after the final whistle, sparking protests from the visitors’ technical bench.
The victory lifted UCU to 22 points from 12 matches, strengthening their position at the top of the standings. Prisons remain fourth with 18 points from 10 games.
Defending champions KCCA Netball Club maintained their unbeaten run with a 52-44 victory over Buddo Secondary School to move to 20 points from 10 matches, with two games in hand.
