SC Villa Agree Terms With FUFA Big League Golden Boot Winner

Record 17-time Uganda Premier League champions SC Villa have agreed terms with Isaac Gumperom, last season’s FUFA Big League top scorer, in a signing that directly targets their biggest weakness: goals. The 17-goal forward from Young Elephants Academy FC chose the Jogoos despite late interest from UPPC FC and BUL FC, and his arrival should give Villa the cutting edge they lacked in the 2025/26 campaign.
The race for Gumperom’s signature became intense in recent weeks as three clubs moved to strengthen their attack. Entebbe UPPC FC, , saw the Young Elephants striker as the natural replacement for Kigozi .

Meanwhile, BUL FC had released 10 players including forwards Karim Ndugwa and Isaac Wagoina, and were looking to rebuild with younger, more energetic talent. Both pushed hard, but Villa held the decisive advantage.
That advantage came from the technical bench. Assistant coach Peter Onen worked with Gumperom during his time at Acholi Province and maintained a strong relationship with the player. That connection tipped the scales.

For Gumperom stepping into top-flight football, trust in a coach who already understands his movement and finishing was crucial. At a club with Villa’s history and pressure to deliver, that familiarity could make the transition smoother and faster.
Gumperom’s season in the Big League explains why he was the most wanted young striker in the country. He finished with 17 goals, showing sharp runs behind defenders, composure in front of goal, and the confidence to carry Young Elephants through difficult games.
He wasn’t just scoring tap-ins. He was creating chances, holding up play, and deciding matches. Those are the exact qualities Villa missed last season when games got tight.
