The second weekend of the 2026/27 Premier League season has delivered plenty of goals, drama and early surprises, with Manchester United bouncing back from their opening-day defeat, Chelsea maintaining their perfect start, while Arsenal now prepare to close the weekend against Aston Villa.
The defending champions opened their title defence with a convincing 3-0 victory over Coventry City and will be looking to make it two wins from two when they visit Villa Park on Monday night.

Manchester United produced one of the weekend’s biggest statements, recovering from their opening-day defeat to Hull City with a commanding 5-2 victory over Ipswich Town at Old Trafford.
Bruno Fernandes was the star of the show, scoring a hat trick as United overturned an early deficit to claim their first three points of the campaign.
Bryan Mbeumo also found the net, while an own goal completed United’s comeback. The result provides Michael Carrick’s side with an important confidence boost after a disappointing start.
CHELSEA KEEP THEIR PERFECT RECORD
Chelsea continued their impressive beginning under new manager Xabi Alonso, edging Brighton 4-3 in a seven-goal thriller at Stamford Bridge.

Liverpool’s search for a first league victory continues after they were held to a 2-2 draw by Nottingham Forest at Anfield.
The Reds twice had to come from behind, with Alexander Isak and Victor Muñoz finding the net to rescue a point.
After also drawing with Newcastle United on the opening weekend, Liverpool now have two points from their first two matches and will be eager to turn those draws into victories.

Tottenham Hotspur’s difficult start continued as Newcastle United secured a 2-0 victory in north London.
Anthony Elanga and Yoane Wissa scored in the second half to give Newcastle all three points, leaving Tottenham without a point or a goal after their opening two matches.

Newly promoted Hull City are proving they are not in the Premier League merely to make up the numbers.
After stunning Manchester United on the opening weekend, Hull followed that up with a 1-0 victory away to Coventry City, Liam Millar scoring the decisive goal late in the game.

The weekend concludes at Villa Park, where defending champions Arsenal take on Aston Villa.
Mikel Arteta’s side arrive in Birmingham after their emphatic 3-0 opening day victory over Coventry, while Villa are looking to recover from a humiliating 4-0 defeat to Brighton.
However, Arsenal should expect a much tougher test away from home.
Villa have undergone major changes during the transfer window, with several key players leaving, including Emiliano Martínez and Ollie Watkins. Watkins has now completed a move to Al-Hilal, further weakening Unai Emery’s attacking options.
