Mbabazi was Uganda’s sole representative in the women’s singles semi-final line-up, carrying the country’s hopes after a strong run through the earlier rounds.

However, the Ugandan’s campaign came to an end as the Indian contingent continued its impressive showing in the women’s singles, with Aesha Gandhi, Akshita Manral and Ishita Negi making up the remaining three names in the last four.

India therefore secured a dominant presence in the women’s singles semi-finals, while Mbabazi’s exit left the hosts without representation in the final stages of the discipline.

The men’s singles semi-finals also produced a highly international line-up, with Hein Htut of Myanmar, Ali Hayati of Iran, Abhishek Kanapala of India and Victor Ikechukwu of Nigeria making the cut.

The results underlined the increasingly competitive nature of the Uganda International Series, which has attracted players from several countries in the battle for valuable international ranking points.

Uganda had entered the tournament with a strong home contingent, but Mbabazi’s run was ultimately halted before the final, leaving the remaining contenders to fight for honours as the tournament moved towards its conclusion.

In the men’s doubles, Makhija of India and Malaysia’s Andy Yew Tung Kok and Yu Sheng Lim were among the players featuring in the final stages.

With the Ugandan challenge in the women’s singles now over, attention shifts to the remaining finals as the international players battle for tournament glory and ranking points at Lugogo.
