The Super Falcons of Nigeria have indeed won the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) title, marking their record-extending 10th championship. This thrilling victory came after a dramatic comeback against host nation Morocco, with the Super Falcons overcoming a 2-0 deficit to win 3-2.

Morocco’s Early Lead: Ghizlane Chebbak opened the scoring for Morocco in the 12th minute, and Sanaâ Mssoudy doubled the lead in the 24th minute.

Nigeria’s Dramatic Comeback: Esther Okoronkwo sparked Nigeria’s comeback with a well-taken penalty in the 64th minute, followed by Folashade Ijamilusi’s equalizer in the 71st minute, assisted by Okoronkwo.

Winning Goal : Joe Echegini sealed the win with a calmly finished goal in the 88th minute, assisted by Esther Okoronkwo.

Okoronkwo who scored a penalty and provided two assists was named the player of the final.

This victory showcases the Super Falcons’ resilience and tactical brilliance, solidifying their dominance in African women’s football.

This victory earn Super Falcons an increased prize money of $1 million, part of the tournament enhanced $3.47 million prize pot that CAF had increased by 45% for this edition.

Among those who witnessed a final that showcased the growing quality of women’s football on the continent is the FIFA president Gianni Infantino and CAF president Patrice Motspe .
