KCCA FC have been crowned champions of the Super 8 after edging NEC FC 1–0 in a tightly contested final at Hamz Stadium in Kampala.

Despite NEC’s masterclass performances throughout the tournament, KCCA held their nerve when it mattered most, with Saidi Mayanja’s first half penalty proving enough to secure the trophy.

Mayanja converted from the spot in the 38th minute after the referee awarded KCCA a penalty following a push on Yunus Sibira by NEC defender Daniel Shabena inside the penalty area .

The triumph marks KCCA head coach Brian Ssenyondo’s first silverware since joining the club on June 20, 2025, while KCCA also claim their second Super 8 title since the tournament’s establishment in 2018.

Ssenyondo welcomed the victory but admitted there is still work to be done, particularly in front of goal.

“It feels good to everybody at the club winning this trophy and it encourages us for the many in waiting. Though we have won, we need to work more on our converting ratio because it’s not always good playing on the verge of that one goal, although today it has brought the championship to us,” said Ssenyondo after the game.

The KCCA coach’s comments underline the fine margins of the final, where one goal was enough to decide the championship despite NEC’s strong showing.

NEC were nevertheless rewarded for their impressive campaign, receiving the Fair Play Award.

Richard Basangwa finished the tournament as the Golden Boot winner, while KCCA’s goalkeeper Mutwalib Mugolofa claimed the Golden Glove. KCCA’s match-winner Saidi Mayanja was named the Tournament MVP.

Earlier, SC Villa secured third place after holding Kitara FC to a goalless draw before winning 4–2 on penalties. The encounter provided entertainment for the Hamz Stadium crowd as Villa finished the tournament third.
