The 2026/27 FUFA Big League season got underway yesterday with five exciting fixtures across the country, delivering goals, debut heroics and early statements from promotion-chasing sides.

KAARO KARUNGI FC 0-1 PAIDHA BLACK ANGELS SC

Paidha Black Angels SC kicked off their promotion quest in perfect fashion with a hard-fought away victory.
Coach Mark Twinamatsiko’s side showed great resilience and tactical discipline against a stubborn Kaaro Karungi FC. After a goalless first half, the West Nile-based side upped the tempo in the second stanza.
The breakthrough came nine minutes after the restart when Ssimbwa scored the lone goal of the game, silencing the home crowd and securing all three points for the visitors. A vital away win to set the tone for their campaign.

It was a dream start at a new home for CATDA Football Club.

The Lufula Boys, who relocated from Bugoloobi Coffee Ground to the iconic Hamz Stadium Nakivubo, marked the new chapter with a dominant 2-0 victory over Rwenzori Lions.
Coach Richard Luyima’s charges started on the front foot, and pacy winger Jabera Jeremiah gave them a deserved lead in the 12th minute with a clinical finish.
The visitors tried to fight back, but CATDA remained solid at the back and put the game to bed in the 92nd minute when centre-back Martin Kikambi Junior calmly converted from the spot to double the advantage.

Coach Luyima showed faith in his new recruits, handing starting berths to three new faces – midfielder Pius Kwoyero signed from Mutungo FC, Michael Kimera and forward Razak Takuba from Mbogo United – and they all impressed.
A perfect start for CATDA, whose ultimate target this season is to secure promotion to the Uganda Premier League.
KIYINDA BOYS FC 3-1 ONDUPARAKA FC

Kiyinda Boys FC produced the performance of the day as they thrashed former Uganda Premier League giants Onduparaka FC 3-1.
Kiyinda Boys came out firing and took the lead in the 10th minute through debutant Siraji Ismail, who marked his first appearance with a well-taken goal.
The hosts doubled their lead 16 minutes later through Odinga Arsene Junior, before Julius Muzerwa made it 3-0 in the 39th minute with a fine strike. By halftime, Kiyinda Boys were cruising with a comfortable three-goal cushion.
Onduparaka, fondly known as the Caterpillars, pulled one back through Aziz Abdalla in the 57th minute, but Kiyinda Boys held firm to claim an emphatic 3-1 victory at full time. A huge statement win.
IGANGA UNITED 1-0 PAKWACH YOUNG STARS FC
At Iganga, Raymond Lusajje proved to be the match-winner for Iganga United. In a tightly contested affair against new entrants Pakwach Young Stars, Lusajje’s solitary strike was enough to separate the two sides and hand Iganga United maximum points on Matchday One.
BUWAMBO UNITED 1-1 YOUNG ELEPHANTS FC
New entrants Buwambo United were forced to share the spoils in their debut Big League fixture. They played out an entertaining 1-1 draw with Young Elephants FC, with both sides settling for a point apiece to open their campaigns.
