Vipers SC Signs Midfielder Joel Sserunjogi On Three-Year Deal

StarTimes Uganda Premier League champions Vipers SC have announced the signing of Uganda Cranes midfielder Joel Sserunjogi from KCCA FC on a three-year contract. The move is a statement of intent from the Kitende side as they look to strengthen for domestic dominance and a deeper run on the African stage.
Sserunjogi arrives at St. Mary’s Stadium with a reputation as one of Uganda’s most intelligent midfielders. He is known for his composure, vision, tactical discipline, and ability to influence games from both ends of the pitch.

A true box-to-box specialist, his attributes include excellent passing, a high work rate, tactical intelligence, leadership qualities, big-match temperament, and valuable national team experience.
The midfielder’s rise has been built on hard work through Uganda’s local football structure. He came through Kajjansi United in the Buganda Region League and featured for Buddu in the Masaza Cup.
His influential performances helped Busiro win a historic first Masaza Cup title in 2022. He leaves Lugogo after three impressive seasons with over 100 appearances for the Kasasiro Boys.

His club form earned a maiden Uganda Cranes call-up in 2024. Since then, Sserunjogi has featured in FIFA World Cup qualifiers, AFCON qualifiers, and was part of the squad that reached the CHAN quarter-finals. That international exposure cements his status as one of the country’s brightest midfield talents.
The signing also reflects Vipers’ collaborative technical approach. Assistant Coach John “Ayala” Luyinda, who has tracked Sserunjogi’s progress for years, strongly recommended him to Head Coach Denis Lavagne as the club targeted midfield reinforcements.
Speaking after the deal, Lavagne said: “Joel is a player with intelligence, personality and great technical quality. John ‘Ayala’ Luyinda spoke very highly of him and, after studying his qualities, it was clear he possesses the attributes we want in this team. He will add balance and creativity to our midfield, and we are delighted to welcome him to Vipers SC.”

Sserunjogi was equally enthusiastic about the switch to Kitende. “I’m somebody who goes with my gut feeling a lot of the time and I feel like it’s steered me in the right direction so far,” he said. “So, I don’t think it’s going to be any different here. I think it’s going to be a great success and I’m really happy to be here.”
With a proven UPL engine room operator now in Venoms colors, Vipers have added both balance and creativity to their midfield as they prepare to defend the title and compete in Africa.
