Odongo Gift Jonathan Snubs NEC Move, Commits Future to Entebbe UPPC FC
Entebbe UPPC FC have been handed a major boost ahead of the new season with the news that star right-back Odongo Gift Jonathan will remain at the club, despite strong interest from NEC FC.
The Bugolobi-based side had identified Odongo as a key target to strengthen their defense and held several rounds of talks with both the player and his representatives. NEC FC were confident of landing the defender after his outstanding displays last season, and tabled an offer in an attempt to lure him away.
However, after careful consideration, Odongo and his camp were not convinced by the terms on the table and decided to stay put at Entebbe. With the move now off, NEC FC will be forced to return to the market in search of another option at right-back.

Odongo’s decision to stay means he will continue his journey at Entebbe UPPC FC under the stewardship of head coach Abdullah Mubiru. The defender was one of the standout performers in the 2025/26 Startimes Uganda Premier League campaign, earning a place in the official Team of the Season for his consistency, defensive discipline, and attacking contributions from the back. Keeping a player of that caliber is a massive statement of intent from UPPC, who will be hoping to build on last season’s progress.
To further strengthen the position, UPPC have also added depth by bringing in Grant Mastiko as a free agent.
The former Vipers SC defender joined after being released by the Venoms and will now compete with Odongo for the starting right-back role. The arrival of Mastiko not only provides cover but also raises the level of competition within the squad, something coach Mubiru will welcome as UPPC prepare for a demanding season ahead.
In the end, Entebbe UPPC FC have retained one of the league’s most reliable defenders and added another experienced option to the mix.
