Ugandan Youngsters Bogere and Ssengooba Set for UEFA Conference League Adventure with AGF Aarhus
Ugandan duo James Bogere and Hamuza Ssengooba will have a big stage to showcase their talent after their Danish side AGF Aarhus secured a place in the 2026/27 UEFA Conference League league phase.
AGF are among the 36 teams that will feature in this season’s competition after dropping down from the UEFA Europa League. The Danish outfit fell short in their Europa League quest, losing 6-2 on aggregate to Portuguese giants Benfica in the qualifying rounds.
Despite the setback, the Conference League presents a massive opportunity, especially for 18-year-old forward James Bogere. The Ugandan youngster has already been instrumental in AGF’s European campaign, scoring twice against Azerbaijan side Sabah FK in the qualifiers to underline his growing importance to the team.
For fellow Ugandan Hamuza Ssengooba, the journey has been different. The defender is yet to establish himself as a regular for AGF, but being part of a squad competing in a major UEFA competition is a significant milestone in his development and offers invaluable exposure at the highest level.
The line-up for the league phase is now complete, with 36 clubs coming through qualifying – 24 play-off winners and 12 transferring from the Europa League. Teams from 30 different nations will feature, including Andorra for the first time in a UEFA league phase.

Craiova (Romania), Kairat Almaty (Kazakhstan), CSKA Sofia (Bulgaria), KuPS Kuopio (Finland), Borac (Bosnia and Herzegovina), Riga (Latvia), Egnatia (Albania), Kauno Žalgiris (Lithuania), Lincoln Red Imps (Gibraltar), Inter Escaldes (Andorra) and Iberia Tbilisi (Georgia).
The list is provisional and subject to final admission by UEFA, as all Russian clubs remain suspended from participating in UEFA competitions until further notice.
