Amus College Shine as Uganda Dominates CECAFA Qualifiers in Kigali, Bags $150,000
Amus College School has emerged as one of the biggest winners at the CAF African Schools Football Championship – CECAFA Qualifiers in Kigali, Rwanda, after Uganda’s representatives secured the Boys’ regional title and a third-place finish in the Girls’ category.
The two Amus College teams produced a strong display throughout the championship, successfully navigating the group stages before advancing to the decisive knockout matches.
The biggest success came in the Boys’ competition, where Amus College defeated hosts Rwanda 1-0 in the final to be crowned CECAFA regional champions.
The victory also came with a significant financial reward, with the Boys’ champions taking home US$100,000.
The Girls’ team equally delivered a commendable performance, finishing third after defeating Rwanda 2-0 in the third-place playoff. Their podium finish earned Uganda US$50,000.

Beyond the team achievements, Uganda also collected several individual and disciplinary awards, underlining the quality of the country’s representation at the regional championship.
The Ugandan Girls were recognised with the Fair Play Award for their discipline and sporting conduct during the tournament.
In the Boys’ category, Kennedy Okwi finished as the tournament’s Top Scorer, while goalkeeper Mukasa Stuart Junior was named Best Goalkeeper.
Mawanda Vincent Kiza completed Uganda’s individual honours by being named the tournament’s Most Valuable Player.
