Express FC head coach Morley Byekwaso breathed a sigh of relief on Thursday evening after the Red Eagles secured a dramatic 3-2 victory over Blacks Power FC in the Uganda Premier League at Hamz Stadium, Nakivubo.
A late strike from substitute Isaac Wagoina sealed all three points for Express, handing the club its second victory of the 2026/27 campaign and easing the growing pressure on Byekwaso, who was under increasing scrutiny to keep his job following the team’s inconsistent performances.
The victory was particularly important for the Red Eagles, whose previous league win had come against KCCA FC. Since then, the club had struggled to consistently pick up positive results, increasing pressure on the technical bench.
Express made a perfect start to Thursday’s encounter, racing into a two-goal lead inside the opening 12 minutes through John Kiseka and Henry Wamala.
However, Blacks Power gradually fought their way back into the contest, with Bashir Asiku pulling one back in the 26th minute before Rajab Fazil restored parity in the 79th minute to make it 2-2.
Just when the visitors appeared to have secured a valuable point, Wagoina emerged as Express’ hero, finding the back of the net in the 89th minute following an excellent delivery from Alpha Thierry Ssali.
The late winner sparked celebrations among the home supporters and ensured Byekwaso walked away with a much-needed victory.
