Uganda’s Differently Abled Chess Stars Set Off for Uzbekistan
History was made at midday today as Uganda’s differently abled chess team departed from SOM Chess Academy in Katwe-Makindye for Uzbekistan.
Led by Coach Wilson Mugwanya, the team has spent weeks in intensive preparation for this global stage. Today, that work became reality as they set off to fly Uganda’s flag high.
For many of these players, this is more than a tournament. It is proof that chess has no barriers. It is a platform where talent speaks louder than disability, and where determination moves pieces.
In Uzbekistan, they will face opponents from across the world, gain priceless international exposure, and showcase the depth of talent within Uganda’s differently abled community.
Their journey is a statement — that inclusion matters, that opportunity must be equal, and that excellence knows no disability.
The official send-off was held today at 12:00 PM at SOM Chess Academy, Katwe-Makindye, attended by members of the chess fraternity, partners, supporters, and the media.
