Butambala and Buddu Remain Unbeaten, Gomba Win On Road As Masaza Cup Matchday Delivers Drama

The Masaza Cup roared back to life with action across all venues, and matchday served up shocks, late drama and first wins as teams chase Buganda Kingdom glory

Title Contenders Kyagwe were the biggest casualties, while Butambala and Buddu kept their unbeaten starts intact and Gomba picked up a big away win.

Ssese Stun Title Contenders Kyagwe
Ssese pulled off the result of the day, beating Kyagwe 1-0 at Lutoboka Playground.
Raymond Kayemba’s lone strike was enough to earn the islanders three massive home points and hand Kyagwe their first defeat of the 2026 edition.

Kayemba was deservedly named Man of the Match.

Gomba End Bulemeezi Misery Away From Home
At Kasana Luweero, Gomba walked away with a 1-0 win over Bulemeezi in a tight contest.

Meddie Kasule, the 2025-26 Buganda Region League top scorer, finally delivered for the Gomba Lions with the only goal of the game. Despite a change in the dugout, Bulemeezi’s winless run goes on.

Kasule picked up the Man of the Match award.

Butambala Keep Surprising, Extend Unbeaten Run
Butambala are turning heads. They made it four games unbeaten after a 2-1 home win over Bugerere at Ntejeru Playground — one of the toughest grounds in the Masaza.

Dathan Mubiru was on target again, and agile Proline FC forward Brian Katete doubled the lead. Osman Mayanja pulled one back late for Bugerere, but it was too little too late. Mubiru was named Man of the Match.

Busiro, Buweekula, Buddu, Kooki All Claim 1-0 Winsㅇ

  • At Trinity College Nabingo, Yusuf Segujja’s 33rd minute goal gave Busiro a 1-0 win over Mawokota, ending a two-game losing streak and earning Segujja Man of the Match. It was also relief for Busiro coach Simon Dunga.
  • Patrick Ssekyanzi scored the only goal as Buweekula edged Busujju 1-0 at Mubende PTC, with Ssekyanzi taking Man of the Match.
  • Joseph Enyabu’s 28th minute strike saw Buddu beat Buvuma 1-0 at Kitovu Arena. Buddu have now won both home games and are unbeaten in four. Nicholas Jonga was named Man of the Match.
  • Ashiraf Ssendagi scored after just 4 minutes as Kooki edged Kabula 1-0 for their first win. Moses Bingi was voted Man of the Match.

At Mityana Ssaza Grounds, Marvin Ssenyonga put Ssingo ahead in the 55th minute, but Sadam Batte struck in the 88th to earn Mawogola a 1-1 draw. Ssingo’s Abubakali Kalungi took Man of the Match.

Kyadondo also celebrated their first victory, edging Buluuri 1-0 thanks to Faisal Mumoli’s 75th minute goal.

Youngster Ernest Raphael Masudi was named Man of the Match, bringing relief to coach Bright Nyanzi amid pressure over inconsistent results.

Early table implications are already clear. Butambala and Buddu look solid with unbeaten runs, Gomba showed they can win on the road, while giants Kyagwe and Bulemeezi have work to do.
With surprises already piling up, this year’s Masaza Cup is shaping up to be one of the most competitive yet.
