Kho Kho Uganda has intensified its drive to take the fast growing sport to every corner of the country, with Western Uganda becoming the latest region to benefit from a capacity building programme aimed at equipping coaches, officials and enthusiasts with the knowledge and modern techniques required to develop the game.
The latest workshop was held at Bushenyi Core PTC in Nyakabirizi Town, attracting 66 participants from Bushenyi, Mbarara, Rubirizi and neighborliness districts.
The training is part of Kho Kho Uganda’s broader strategy to build a strong foundation for the sport by taking technical knowledge closer to communities and developing a network of trained coaches and officials capable of introducing and sustaining the game at grassroots level.
The participants demonstrated strong interest and commitment towards embracing Kho Kho, giving the federation confidence that the sport has significant potential to grow in Western Uganda.
Kho Kho Uganda President Nsubuga Mustafa appreciated the participants for embracing the sport and highlighted the federation’s ongoing regional training programmes in Soroti, Mbale and Lango Region.
The programmes are designed to equip coaches with the basic knowledge of Kho Kho while exposing them to modern coaching techniques, rules and practical approaches that can help improve the quality of the game across Uganda.
For Kho Kho Uganda, the strategy is not simply about introducing the sport to new areas, but creating the technical capacity needed to sustain its growth.
By empowering coaches and officials at regional and grassroots level, the federation hopes to establish a wider pool of knowledgeable personnel who can identify talent, train players and organise competitions within their communities.
The Bushenyi workshop therefore represents another step in the federation’s ambition of making Kho Kho accessible from the major towns to the most remote corners of Uganda.
The federation says Western Uganda will continue to receive support through more training programmes, competitions, talent-development initiatives and opportunities for players, coaches and officials.
With the sport already expanding into different parts of the country, Kho Kho Uganda believes that developing the people responsible for teaching and administering the game will be crucial to building a sustainable future.
“This is only the beginning,” is the message from Kho Kho Uganda as the federation continues its nationwide expansion.
The ultimate goal is clear: Protect, Promote and Develop the Game while ensuring that every region of Uganda has the knowledge, personnel and opportunities needed to participate in Kho Kho.
For Western Uganda, the journey has now begun and the federation believes the region’s future in Kho Kho is bright.
