KCCA FC Lights Up Lugogo As Upgraded Floodlights Transform Night Football
KCCA FC has ushered in a new era of night football at MTN Omondi Stadium, Lugogo, following a major upgrade of the stadium’s floodlighting system by electrical solutions company CHINT@Uganda.
The lighting system has been upgraded from 503 lux to a minimum output of 1,020 lux, a development expected to significantly improve the experience for players, fans, broadcasters and match officials.
The upgrade means KCCA FC can now resume hosting competitive fixtures under the floodlights, opening the door to more evening kickoffs at one of Uganda’s prominent football venues.
For fans, the improved lighting promises a more vibrant matchday atmosphere, allowing supporters to enjoy football in a modern evening setting while giving businesses around the stadium an opportunity to benefit from increased activity during night fixtures.
But beyond the atmosphere, the biggest impact could be on television and digital broadcasting.

Professional sports cameras require strong and evenly distributed lighting to capture fast-moving action clearly. The jump to a minimum of 1,020 lux is therefore expected to produce brighter, sharper and more consistent pictures for viewers watching KCCA FC matches on television and digital platforms.
The improved lighting also strengthens Lugogo’s potential to host high profile domestic and international fixtures, subject to the applicable competition and venue requirements.
CHINT@Uganda Managing Director and Founder Namutebi Sherry Shi said the project reflects the company’s continued commitment to improving the football experience in Uganda.
“When we first introduced night football at Lugogo, it was a dream to transform how fans experience matchdays. Upgrading the lighting from 503 lux to a minimum output of 1,020 lux reflects our growing commitment.”
Namutebi added that the decision to renew the company’s partnership with KCCA FC for another two years was driven by the progress made during their four-year relationship.
“After four fruitful years with KCCA FC, renewing our partnership for two more years was inevitable. We are excited to continue lighting up the KCCA FC stadium and boosting the experience and passion of Ugandan football.”
KCCA FC Chairman Eng. Sserunjogi Andrew Mukiibi described the development as more than a sponsorship initiative, saying the partnership with CHINT has increasingly focused on infrastructure and innovation.
“Our four-year journey with CHINT has gone beyond just sponsorship. It is a partnership built on progress and innovation. Upgrading our floodlights from 503 lux to a minimum output of 1,020 lux definitely changes the game for us.”
He added that the return of night fixtures at Lugogo would give supporters the matchday experience they deserve.
The improved floodlights could also have an economic impact beyond the stadium. Evening matches are likely to keep fans around the venue for longer, creating opportunities for food vendors, retailers, transport operators and other businesses within the wider Lugogo sports hub.
For KCCA FC, the project therefore represents more than simply brighter lights.
It combines better football visibility, improved broadcasting, enhanced fan experience and increased commercial possibilities, while positioning MTN Omondi Stadium to meet higher standards for modern football venues.
With the floodlights now delivering more than double their previous minimum output, Lugogo is set to become a brighter stage for Ugandan football when the sun goes down.
