Vipers SC Sign Versatile Defender Nicholas Mwere on Two-Year Deal

StarTimes Uganda Premier League champions Vipers SC have confirmed the signing of defender Nicholas Mwere on a two-year contract.
The 25-year-old joins the Venoms on a free transfer after his contract at BUL FC expired. He becomes Vipers’ latest addition as the club steps up preparations for a demanding 2026/27 campaign that will cover domestic, regional and continental football.

Mwere can operate at centre-back and on either flank, and he arrives at St. Mary’s Stadium, Kitende with a reputation as one of the UPL’s most reliable and adaptable defenders.
Across three seasons with BUL FC in Jinja, he made 69 UPL appearances. He impressed with tactical discipline, strong defensive awareness and composure in possession. Before that, he developed at Busoga United and earned a place in the UPL Team of the Season for the 2023/24 campaign.

Internationally, Mwere represented Uganda at the 2024 African Nations Championship with the Uganda Cranes and has also featured for the Sand Cranes, Uganda’s national beach soccer team.
Lavagne: “An Excellent Addition”
Head Coach Denis Lavagne says Mwere’s flexibility and professionalism will add real value over a long season.
“Nicholas is a defender with great discipline, versatility and consistency. He can perform in different positions across the backline, which is extremely valuable over the course of a long season. His attitude, experience in the league and desire to improve make him an excellent addition to our squad,” Lavagne said.

Mwere is excited to join the Venoms.
“Joining Vipers SC is a proud moment in my career. This is a club with a winning culture, great ambitions and incredible supporters. I am ready to work hard, learn from the technical team and give everything to help the club achieve its objectives. I can’t wait to get started,” he said.
Mwere joins an already strong defensive group that includes Enock Luyima and Derrick Ndahiro. His arrival follows the signings of Joel Sserunjogi and Jacques Mangoba, underlining Vipers’ strategic recruitment ahead of the new season.
