Erling Haaland has moved to the top of the all-time Manchester derby scoring charts after his decisive goal gave Manchester City a 1-0 victory over Manchester United at Old Trafford.

The Norwegian striker struck to take his Manchester derby tally to nine goals, moving clear of Manchester United legend Wayne Rooney and Manchester City great Sergio Agüero, who both scored eight times in the fixture.

The historic goal came on a dramatic afternoon in which City finished the match with 10 men, but Pep Guardiola’s side held on to claim the derby bragging rights.

Haaland leads the derby scorers
Haaland’s latest strike puts him alone at the summit of the Manchester derby’s all time scoring list:
Erling Haaland – 9 goals
Wayne Rooney – 8 goals
Sergio Agüero – 8 goals
Eric Cantona – 7 goals
Phil Foden – 7 goals

The achievement is another remarkable milestone for Haaland, who has established himself as one of the most prolific scorers in Manchester derby history despite having played considerably fewer derby matches than some of the legends on the list.

For City, the victory was about more than Haaland’s record. Playing with a numerical disadvantage, they demonstrated defensive resilience to protect their narrow lead and silence the home crowd at Old Trafford.

For United, meanwhile, the defeat will be a bitter one, particularly given the importance of the derby and the fact that their neighbours left with all three points.

Haaland’s goal therefore goes into the record books twice as the strike that settled another Manchester derby and as the goal that made him the leading scorer in the history of the fixture.
